David Simon, Ex Baltimore Sun Reporter, Showrunner von THE WIRE:

"We wrote the outcomes for ourselves. For what we wanted to say about the world. We didn't care that...you know...how is somebody going to write a dark story? How is somebody going to critique where we are going as a republic or as a culture, how is somebody gonna do that, when in the next minute, we have to reassure you, that you're gonna be alright, so that you'll buy some more stuff. That was the problem with tv. The advertising dictated a certain outcome. Dictated, you know, don't kill the kid, don't kill the lady. Make it good at the end. Solve the murder. You know, redemption. Redemption. Redemption. You know... One of the most oversold things in American popular culture is redemption. Nobody said "you can't tell a dark story" on HBO."
